Injection mold trial is a manufacturing process, for sample making, tooling verification, an upfront process of volume production. We can divide the process into 4 stages: material & pigment preparation, injection mold set up, molding parameters adjustment, molding production run.
After mold setting up to injection machine, we will start cleaning off the barrel. It is a time-consuming job sometimes. We will have to put clean material to the barrel so that the barrel to be free of the previous material in last injection molding thoroughly.
When start adjusting the molding parameter, we will start some safer molding parameter. The process normally will start from about 50% of a full molded part, then 80%, then 95-98%, final adjusting external cosmetic and other specified tolerance if there is any special requirement.
For production tool, we would suggest having the production window as large as possible. So that it will be more steady quality during molding production. The tool building lead time will be longer, while the cost will be higher.
While for rapid tooling, and low-volume injection molding, the tooling structure would be simplified. Then molding parameters adjustment would be more difficult. And also, during low-volume production, the production situation would not be as steady, or efficiency as a production tool.
In low-volume production, unit prices of adjusting molding parameters would be considered in rapid tooling, low volume production and a small quantity of on-demand manufacturing. While at high volume production, molding parameters adjustment normally is not considered into unit prices.
